A weak NC has weakened democracy : Sushil

KATHMANDU, Aug 24: Nepali Congress president Sushil Koirala has said that democracy has weakened in the country when his party has become weak.



Koirala said this while speaking at a programme organised at his residence in Maharajgunj for providing party membership to President of the Contractors Association of Nepal Jayaram Lamichhane who joined the party on Saturday. [break]



He said the election to the Constituent Assembly has become necessary to institutionalize the democracy and protect the rights and interests of the people.



The NC president reiterated that the election to the Constituent Assembly would be held on the stipulated date at any cost.



Lamichhane said that he joined the NC as it is a democratic party and it was his desire to work for promoting democracy remaining in such a party.



Meanwhile, the U.K.-based Nepali Public Relations Committee has handed over Rs. 220 thousand meant as relief aid to the flood-affected people to NC president Koirala.
