KATHMANDU, Aug 29: As it continued to drizzle, music lovers started gathering at nepa~laya’s ‘r’ sala to savor a romantic evening last Friday. It was lyricist Dinesh Adhikari’s turn to take on the Paleti stage.

Welcoming the audience, lyricist Adhikari said, “Non-singing song writers like me have now found a medium to connect with audiences through Paleti. I’m extremely happy for this affiliation.”[break]

Dinesh has written songs reflecting various moods. His creations deal with subjects as varied as love, betrayal and social themes. After the opening song Jeevan Bhanu Ta Ghat Chha Dinesh shared, “It seems like a coincidence how songs can relate to us. As I was singing, I was thinking of Bhakta Raj Acharya, the original singer of this song.” Singer Bhaktaraj had to undergo tongue surgery as he was suffering from cancer and is no more into singing.

“Lyricist, composer and singer are equally important for the creation of a song,” he said.

Dinesh has been fortunate to have worked with several generations of Nepali modern music. From Amber Gurung to Nati Kaji, Narayan Gopal, Dibya Khaling of the older generation to Prakash Thapa, Ram Thapa of the second generation to Nhyoo Bajracharya, Ramkrishna Dhakal of the present, Dinesh has written songs for them all.

Suddenly, Dinesh went on to share an incident that took place during his wedding reception, “All the invitees had arrived but I did not see Ram Thapa and Prakash Shrestha. Later they arrived with a cassette in their hand. They had been recording one of my songs the whole day and came with the recorded tape as my wedding gift.”

Along with popular numbers like Soche Jasto Hunna Jeevan and Yo Samjhine Maan Cha three new compositions were performed back to back. Two of the compositions were penned by Paleti coordinator Aavaas and one by lyricist Rajendra Shrestha.

As the program proceeded, Dinesh felt more comfortable with his audience. His memoir with various singers and musicians came as an interesting experience for all who attended this musical event.

Though the evening was scheduled to end with a Narayan Gopal’s classic Timi Jun Raharle Mama Phula Aayau the audiences were still craving for more. Finally the show ended with a film song penned by Dinesh Adhikari Bola Bola Pakha Haru Hiun Fulne Kakhaharu.
