8 die in 3 separate accidents

KATHMANDU, March 6: Eight persons were killed and 85 others injured in three separate road accidents in Mahottari, Pyuthan and Dhading on Tuesday.



Ram Bharoshi Pandit, 28, and Binesh Pandit, 20, of Khutapipradhi-7, Mahottari and another unidentified man died when the bus (Na 3 Kha 7112) returning with the bride after the wedding overturned at Patu Mode along the Bardiwas-Sindhuli section of the BP Highway in Mahottari, reports our Janakpur correspondent Suresh Yadav.[break]



Forty persons of the wedding procession returning from Sindhuli Madi to Khutapipradhi were injured in the accident but the bride and groom in a separate vehicle were left unscathed. Inspector Ramesh Basnet at the Area Police Office, Bardibas said the accident may have occurred due to negligence of the driver.



Meanwhile, three persons died and 42 others injured when a passenger bus (Lu 1 Kha 6159) heading for Kathmandu from Rolpa hit the retention wall by the side of road in Dhungegadhi of Pyuthan, reports our Dang correspondent Gajendra Bohara.



Raju Pun, 27, of Rolpa died on the spot, Ram Bahadur Bista of Rolpa died when being taken to Lamahi while Bir Bahadur Singh, 60, also from Rolpa breathed his last while undergoing treatment at Kohalpur.



A few seriously injured passengers have been taken to Kohalpur for treatment while those with minor injuries are being treated at Pyuthan District Hospital in Bijuwar and Bhalubang of Dang, according to the police.



Police said the accident occurred due to overcrowding of the mini bus in the steep and winding road. Police said around 47 persons were travelling in the bus with a capacity of 20 due to the ongoing strike. The driver has been taken under control.



Meanwhile, two persons were killed and three others injured when a truck skidded off the road at Jyamirechowk of Dhading district, according to Republica correspondent Samudra Poudel.



The dead have been identified as Raju Bhujel, 30, of Baireni-6, and Krishna Bahadur Khada, 56, of Baireni-3 in Dhading district. Police said the truck fell off the road due to brake failure.
