RASUWA, July 8: Six more bird species of birds have been spotted in Langtang National Park (LNP). A three-month survey conducted by three survey teams led by conservation officer Ram Dev Chaudhary of LNP has confirmed the presence of the new bird species in the park.

During the survey carried out from mid-March to mid-June at the park, the teams found hill pigeon, pine bunting, pale blue flycatcher, Fire-fronted Serin, Rusty-fronted Barwing and Hill Prinia in the park. The birds are found at the altitude between 2,100-3800 meters in Nepal. [break]

The new bird species were sighted in nine different places between Sindupalchowk, Nuwakot and Rasuwa of the park, informed LNP.

As per existing data, LNP is home to 315 species of birds. However, the latest survey found the presence of six more species, bringing the total number to 321.

The recently migrated bird species usually stay in a flock of nine to 12, said Chaudhary. He said, "The birds might have migrated to LNP due to forest fires and increasing bird hunting in the hills."

LNP, which spans across three districts, is lately turning into the home for various bird species as wildlife hunting is strictly prohibited inside the park.
