Of them, 225 were killed in the April 25 Gorkha quake and remaining in the aftershocks including May 12 aftershock measuring 6.8 in the Richter scale. Likewise, 33 teachers were killed in the quake, according to Joint-secretary at the Ministry of Education Labadev Awasthi.
The earthquake also caused direct impact to 6,902 schools while 16,475 class rooms were affected. Furthermore, 7,266 classrooms have been vulnerable while another 12,613 suffered minor damage, according to the Ministry.
Similarly, 2,600 school toilets were completely destroyed, 1,459 walls, 1,363 supply rooms and nine district education offices were also severely damaged in the quake, as per the report collected so far. RSS
