1st Photo Challenge winners announced

KATHMANDU, Oct 25: Image School Sunday announced winners of the 1st Photo Challenge which was held from August 15 to September 10. The online voting took place from September 15 to October 10.

A jury comprising well-known international and national personalities presented three title prizes, after reviewing 40 finalists. Images were submitted by 25 Nepalese photographers across the globe. [break]

The jury included Jitendra Raj Bajracharya, MzMouse Adams, Arpan Shrestha, Surendra Lawoti, Sarad Rai, Mikel Dunham and Hari Bangsha Kirant.

Participating photographers also voted for three Viewer’s Choice prizes.

Shishir’s image, entitled “Itumbahal,” was one of three images chosen under the Long Exposure theme, while images from Prajwal Bhattarai, Sandeep Rimal, Navesh Chitrakar, Shikhar Bhattarai and Pranish Pradhan were selected to receive the Viewer’s Choice award.

In vivid colors, the photo captures the festive urgency of the occasion and how festivals like these are by the people and for the people. Navesh’s photo represents the rich culture of Nepal that tourists flock here to see.

Simple yet powerful; the background tone along with the texture of motion creates impatience and anxiety in the mind. These elements depict the passing of time. However, the clip in the foreground is unmoved; withstanding time and hanging on a rope, a rope of hope.
