19 missing in Kalikot flood

SURKHET, June 18: Nineteen people have gone missing in a flash flood in Sanigadkhola in Kalikot district on Monday night, the district administration office said Tuesday.



According to Jagat Basnet, the Kalikot chief district officer, the flooded Sanigadkhola in between Muma and Sipkhana villages also washed away 20 houses, at 3 am Tuesday. The flood site is a day’s walk from the district headquarters. [break]



Among the missing are Krishna Neupane, an overseer at Kalikot district development committee, sub overseer Takka Bahadur Bam and Karan Thami, an engineer with Helvatas Nepal. So far the bodies of two persons have been recovered while the rest are unaccounted for.



According to Basnet, personnel from Nepal Army and Nepal Police have been deployed at the incident site for search and rescue works. The communication breakdown caused by the flood has made it difficult to gather more information, he added.
