A joint-meeting of the student wings held in the capital on Monday concluded that the prime minister´s tenure automatically expired as Bhattarai is no more member of the parliament as per Article 38 (7) (b) of the Interim Constitution. [break]
As outlined in the struggle program, the student groups will hand over a memorandum to the president on May 29 mentioning their concerns. Similarly, the student organizations will organize protests and burn effigy of the prime minister in Kathmandu on May 30.
Likewise, they will organize protests in all districts and burn effigies of the prime minister on May 31 while they will hold interaction on June 1.
"The meeting demands Prime Minister Bhattarai to step down immediately and pave the way for the formation of a national consensus government," reads the joint press statement issued by the student leaders after the meeting.
They have maintained that only a national consensus government can give outlet for the current political vacuum. "So, we strongly demand formation of a national consensus government through a round table conference as soon as possible," reads the statement.
The student organizations have also stated that a national consensus government should announce the next election as Prime Minister Bhattarai has lost his legitimacy.
They have denounced the demise of the Constituent Assembly saying that it was dissolved without promulgating a new constitution.
