13 security personnel declared dead, 101 injured in earthquake

KATHMANDU, May 1: At least 13 security personnel have lost their lives while 101 are injured in the earthquakes that rocked most of the parts of the country on Saturday and Sunday.

According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, equal numbers of security personnel from Nepal Army, Armed Police Force and Nepal Police have died and injured. 10 Nepal Army personnel are still not in touch.Punya Prasad Dhakal, Information Co-ordination Officer at National Emergency Center, said that as they are still updating statistics on casualties at regular basis and the death toll may rise in the days to come. "The number of the deaths and injured may increase as the collection of the information is getting momentum from every affected parts of the nation," said Dhakal.

According to Dhakal, eight persons from Nepal Army have lost their lives and 31 are injured. Similarly, four from Nepal Police are declared dead and 49 are reported to be injured.

Likewise, one Armed Police security person died and 21 others have been injured during the course of rescue operations.
