According to the District Administration Office (DAO), Sarlahi, the court sentenced all the convicts to three years in jail along with fine of Rs 25,000. The district court also gave clean chit to the three DAO staffers and a local defendant.
The bench of Judge Dal Bahadur KC issued the verdict, according to Dinesh Mishra, an employee at the District Court.Earlier on February 21, 2013, the metropolitan police had arrested 10 foreigners from the airport in the capital in possession of fake Nepali citizenship certificates and Machine Readable Passports (MRPs). The arrested are Narul Miya, 18, Mohammad Aaiub Ansari, 20, Umar Miya, 25, Abadul Miya, 22, Narul Miya, 22, of Burma, and Alam Gir Miya, 21, Jahir Ansari, 22, and Raffique Mansir, 20, of Myanmar and Md Ali Hussain, 21, of Bangladesh. Following their arrest, a case was filed against them in the court.
However, it took two years for the court to issue the verdict against the foreigners and the two Nepali nationals -- Md. Abas Kha Paithan, of Aurahi VDC-1 and Ram Babu Yadav. Although the foreigners have been sent to jail, the convicted Nepalis have fled the district.
Likewise, the court gave a clean chit to three DAO staffers, including Section Officer Surya Prasad Bhattarai, and a local, who were made defendants in the case.
