Poverty stricken Chepang families had lost all hopes as this year´s drought had damaged most of corn fields.[break]
On the occasion of World Food Day, an organization Koren Food for International, handed over items like rice, pulses, salt, edible oil, soaps, a pair of new cloth and quilt to Chepang families on Tuesday.
According to the organization, they always wanted to help the poor Chepang families after seeing them being victimized by unpredictable weather every year. Around Rs 300,000 worth of goods were distributed to the needy Chepang families, said the organization.
Chandra Bahadur Chepang,78, of Rajbang village, who had come to Shaktikhor VDC to receive his share was filled with exhilaration. “In this time of famine hit Dhasain season, I am so happy that my family members will have rice for dinner,” said Chandra. He is the bread winner for his 11-member extended family.
Like Chandra, Dilvari Chepang, who has 12 families to feed, sparked with happiness while receiving her share. “We were left with nothing to eat this season. This donation has saved our lives,” said Dilvari.
“Being able to offer this little help to these families has given us happiness as well,” said James Pak, Korean representative of the organization.
