Nepali New Year 2076 BS today

KATHMANDU, April 2014: The Nepali New Year is being marked today by exchanging greetings across the country. Also called ‘Mesh Sankranti’ or ‘Baisakh Sankranti’, today the Sun enters into the Aries from the Pisces. The first day of the Year 2076, this is the day for everyone to plan for future with firm determination by evaluating the success and failures of the past.

Panchanga based on traditional Hindu and Vedic astrological tabulation forecasts celestial phenomena such as solar eclipses. The Bikram Sambat is 57 years 8 month and 15 days ahead of the Gregorian Calendar. As per the mythology, Bikram Sambat is believed to have been started by King Bikramaditya.

People visit various temples, start new works, make new resolutions and exchange greetings on the New Year’s Day today.

President, Vice President’s best wishes on New Year 2076

Meanwhile,  President Bidya Devi Bhandari has wished for peace, prosperity, longevity and happiness to all the Nepalis home and abroad on the occasion of the Nepali New Year 2076 BS.

Giving a best wishes message today, President Bhandari expressed her confidence that year 2076 would move ahead to achieve the government motto and common goal of all Nepalis- ‘Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali’. “I am hopeful that the international communities which love Nepal would cooperate to help realize the motto Prosperous Nepal: Happy Nepali,” said Bhandari in her message, wishing the New Year would give more energy to strengthen the historic achievements achieved through a long struggle through good-governance and prosperity.

Reminding that year 2075 BS was successful in formulating new laws as per the federal system and institutional strengthening, the Head of the State urged all the Nepalis to move ahead with a high morale. She has also wished to see the New Year 2076 successful in achieving sustainable peace and prosperity for the country.

Likewise, Vice-President Nanda Bahadur Pun has wished good health, peace and progress to all the Nepali sisters and brothers at home and abroad on the same occasion. In a message of best wishes on the occasion today, Vice-President Pun asserted that the country was moving ahead in the path of sustainable peace, development and economic prosperity carrying a campaign ‘Prosperous Nepal: Happy Nepali’.

Stating that the year 2075 was over laying foundation for the development and prosperity, Pun also expressed his belief that the New Year would be a year to make stride for economic and social transformation and prosperity. He also spoke of the need for all the Nepalis to further strengthen the achievements such as federal republic, secularism, social justice achieved after a long struggle and to usher Nepal to the path of development and prosperity.

He also underscored the need to further consolidating the nationality, geographical indivisibleness, sovereignty and liberty of the Nepali people. The Vice-President also wished that may the New Year 2076 be successful in enabling an environment of cooperation and goodwill and in drawing attention of all the Nepali in nation-building and common agendas.

Former King Shah extends New Year 2076 greetings

Likewise,  Former King Gyanendra Shah has extended his good wishes to all Nepalis on the occasion of the Nepali New Year 2076 BS. In a message on the occasion today, former King Shah underscored functioning of the executive, legislative and judiciary on the principle of separation of power and democratic values.

Stating that his faith towards this country was unfazed, the former king in his message urged,” We all should be faithful and work for the greater good of the country and national unity by introspecting our weakness of the past.”
