As a part of the party´s ongoing Mechi-Mahakali Poll Awakening Campaign, the UCPN (Maoist) organized rallies in four different places in Saptari district and one in Siraha district on Thursday.[break]
Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, senior leader Dr Baburam Bhattarai and Narayan Kaji Shrestha addressed separate rallies organized at Dharampur of constituency number 1, Bhardaha of constituency number 2, Rajbiraj of constituency number 3 and Kusaha of constituency number 4 of Saptari district on Thursday.
The top three leaders of the party also addressed another rally organized in Lahan, a major town of Siraha district on the same day.
Addressing the rally in Rajbiraj, Maoist Chairman Dahal announced that he would either become president or prime minister after winning from Madhes. He also announced to work for the greater cause of Madhes and Madhesi people after assuming the top position.
Dahal has fielded his candidacy from constituency number 5 of Siraha district. "I, including some other leaders, have fielded candidacies from Madhes to represent the sentiments of Madhes. I will work for the cause of Madhes after reaching to one of those two positions after this elections," he said.
While arguing that Madhes-based parties represented in the erstwhile Constituent Assembly (CA) failed to represent the true sentiments and demands of Madhesi people, Dahal urged Madhesi people not to vote for fringe parties in Madhes. "New constitution cannot be drafted if the Maoists failed to secure majority in the upcoming election. I therefore have come here to ask you to vote for our party, but not to the Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and the Madhes-based parties," he said.
Adding that the UCPN (Maoist) was the first party to raise the agenda of federalism, Dahal argued that his party alone would ensure federal Madhes state with all rights. Addressing the rally in Bhardaha, Dahal argued that electing a Madhesi face alone would not guarantee the fulfillment of Madhesi interests. "Our party should win the elections to ensure rights of all groups including Madhesi and Janajati”," he further said.
Arguing that UCPN (Maoist) had secured just 237 seats in the previous elections, senior leader Dr Bhattarai argued that his party needed at least 401 seats in the new CA to promulgate new constitution," he said. Another senior leader Shrestha expressed confidence that Madhesi people will vote for the Maoist party as they are committed to ensuring the rights to the Madhesi people.
After addressing two other rallies in Dharampur and Kushaha, the top three leaders had reached Lahan to address yet another election rally. Dahal argued that the country could see stable government and pro-people constitution only if a party, which is committed to change, identity and federalism, is voted to victory.
Dahal, who is contesting the election from constituency number 5 of Siraha district, asked for votes for all Maoist candidates from the Tarai districts. "I have taken oath to address the road-related problems of southern villages, drinking water-related problems in northern villages, and the demand for irrigation and airport in the district," he said.
Expressing confidence that he would make it to Singha Durbar with support from Siraha, Dahal said that he would work toward the development of Mithila and Madhes. "Madhesi people have only regretted by electing fringe Madhesi parties. I am sure people will vote for the Maoists this time," he said.
