Nepal Olympic Committee President Dhruba Bahadur Pradhan said that the SAOC executive committee meeting held in Moscow last week, however, agreed to defer the hosting of SAG to February 2013.[break]
"Members urged India to fix the date for the next executive council meeting without further delay and announce the dates of the SAG as well as the disciplines of the SAG," Pradhan informed Nepali press on Friday about the SAOC decisions.
"The Indian Olympic Association was told by the members that if it can´t fulfill its obligations within a reasonable time, it should pass on the responsibility of hosting the next SAG to Nepal," said Pradhan.
Presidents of the national Olympic committees of all South Asian countries had participated in the meeting held during the general assembly of Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) in Moscow.
"Member countries have opined that the biannual event should not be deferred time and again. Some of the members rather suggested to host the regional event as a joint venture by two or three nations," NOC General Secretary Jeewan Ram Shrestha said.
Earlier, Indian Olympic Committee had proposed to host the 12th SAG in Delhi in February 2013 while it was agreed in principle that Nepal would be allowed to host the 13th South Asian Games.
"If India failed to fulfill its obligations we will get the hosting rights and if that happens we´ll inform our government immediately so that we can start preparations," said Pradhan.
Indian Olympic Association has been embroiled in corruption charges stemming from the financial irregularities in the Commonwealth Games 2010.
