Samrat will take on Rastriya Jagriti Club of Itahari in the title clash. Manoj Marik, Deepak Lama, Bishal Tamang and Anil Dhimal converted spotkicks for Samrat in the tiebreaker. Raju Rai and Rungrihang Rai succeeded in converting spotkicks for Dhankuta. The winner and the runner up of the tournament will bag a purse of Rs 40,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively.
Chataraline lifts title
DHARAN: Chataraline Cricket Club of Dharan on Saturday won the title of Rotaract Running Cup Cricket Tournament for third consecutive time held in Dharan. Chataraline defeated Gallitol Cricket Club of Dharan by six wickets in the final to lift the title of the third edition as well. Earlier, Chataraline had won the title in 2008 and 2009 and the event was not organized in 2010.
Opting to bat first Gallitol garnered 87 runs losing all the wickets in 13.5 overs in the 16-over match. Mohamad Ajad Sekh topscored with 45 for Gallitol and Bikki Khan contributed with 28 runs. Jenish Shrestha claimed three wickets and Iraj Shrestha hauled two wickets of Gallitol. In reply, Chataraline achieved the target in 14.1 over. Kuldip Dhungana scored the highest 37 runs for winning side. Dhungana was adjudged the man-of-the-match.
Bikki Khan of Gallitol was declared the man-of-the-series while Bijay Rai, Pankaj Sharma and Kuldip Dhungana of Chataraline were declared the best fielder, bowler and batsman respectively.
Nepali, Lama continue winning run
KATHMANDU: Nepal Champion Badri Lal Nepali and former Nepal Champion Surbir Lama continued their winning run in the ongoing Chakratirth Cup FIDE Rating Chess Tournament on Saturday. Both Nepali and Lama have equal three points from three rounds. Along with them, Bikash Kuluju, Herakaji Maharjan, Krishna Thapa, Niraj Niraoula, Bhawani Limbu and Ravindra Shakya also have three points.
Nepali defeated Raju Subedi and Lama overcame Navin Tandukar in the third round of the tournament. Kuluju beat Surendra Shrestha while Maharjan overpowered Madan Krishna Kayastha. Niraoula overpowered Upendra Karmacharya and Thapa beat Laba Kumar Shrestha. Shyam Sundar Shrestha, Rajendra Shrestha, Bipin Amatya and Rajan Puri finished with 2.5 points after third round.
Gurung leads archery tournament
KATHMANDU: Wangdel Gurung of Laxmi Hyundai Manang Marshyangdi Club is leading the Open Archery Tournament being held in Kathmandu after the completion of the third day of the tournament on Saturday. Gurung added six points to his overnight score of two points to move to the top with eight points. He received Rs 26,200 as the best archer of the day.
Overnight leader Govinda Chhantyal of Nepal Chhyantal Sangh added a point to his overnight score of six and is placed in the second position. With four points each, Chitralal Hirachan of Marfa Milijuli Club, Deepak Chhyantal of Nepal Chhyantal Sangh and Urgen Gurung of Mustang Barhagaou are place in the third position. The tournament is being organized by Nepal-Japan Contact Committee.
Tashi Dong clinches KEGG golf
KATHMANDU: Tashi Dong on Saturday clinched the KEGG Golf Tournament at the Gokarna Golf Club. Dong, the skipper of top flight football club Manang Marshyangdi Club and former member of the national football squad scored 38 points to secure first position coming ahead of Norbu Sherpa during the event played under stableford 3/4 handicap format. Sherpa scored 34 points.
Tendi Sherpa came third with 33 points. Gokarna Golf Club President Suhrid Ghimire distributed prizes to the winners. Altogether 24 golfers competed in the tournament organized by Kathmandu Eager Golfing Group.
Sanjay Lama triumphs
KATHMANDU: Sanjay Lama on Saturday won the Festival of Lights Golf Tournament played under stableford 7/8 handicap format at the Royal Nepal Golf Club. Lama collected 37 points including three birdies which became sufficient for him to take home the most birdies award. Ojasvi CB Singh finished second scoring 35 points. Niraj Pun won the best gross award with 27 points and also bagged the closest to the pin award.
Rekha Ghimire bagged the ladies award with 38 points and Pushpa Rai was a distant second with 31 points. Rabin Rana won the longest drive award. Altogether 43 golfers, including nine ladies, took part in the tournament.
