Body of driver thrown into river found

SURKHET, Sept 18: The driver who was thrown alive into the Seti River by a mob after his bus ran over a child has been found dead.



The locals in Kunathari village recovered the body of the driver, Wakil Budhathoki, from Chepang on Friday. Police, who reached Chepang on Saturday, identified the body. [break]



On Sunday, Budhathoki´s bus Na 3 Kha 665 had run over a three-year-old child, Indira BC, in Rakam after which an infuriated mob thrashed him before throwing him into the river. A resident of Devsthal village in Salyan, Budhathoki had started the bus, which was parked in Gajauda of Rakam for some time, without knowing that Indira was under the bus.



On Saturday, following the discovery of the dead body, Budhathoki´s elder brother Dilli Bahadur filed a case against 16 locals allegedly involved in throwing the driver. According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Raju Manandhar, police are investigating the incident. Police have already arrested three locals in connection with the incident.



After their coworker was thrown into the river, transport workers from Bheri-Karnali zone launched an indefinite transport strike, which is still on. Transport entrepreneurs have pledged to provide one million rupees to the family of the killed child.
