First HoR meeting after elections being held today

KATHMANDU, Jan 9: The first session of the newly-elected House of Representatives (HoR) is starting on Monday.

Separate meetings of the HoR and National Assembly (NA) would be held at 1:00 pm today in the Federal Parliament House, New Baneshwor. This will be the 13th regular session of the NA. 

In the meetings of the HoR and NA on Monday, a letter received from the Office of the President on summon of the Federal Parliament Session would be read out. Also the letters from the Office of the President on appointment of the Prime Minister and formation of the Council of Ministers would be read out. 

Assistant Spokesperson at the Federal Parliament Secretariat Dasharath Dhamala said that leaders of the political parties are scheduled to address the HoR and NA.

In the HoR meeting, 12 political parties’ leaders representing the House are scheduled to deliver their message of best wishes on Monday.

The eldest HoR member Pashupati Shumsher JBR would welcome the MPs. 

The HoR meeting shall run as per the HoR Regulations, 2075 BS. The meeting would also approve the Regulations.

On Monday, the eldest MP JBR would inform the House about a proposal that Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal would take a vote of confidence of the House on Tuesday.

Maoist Centre Chairman Dahal was appointed the PM on December 25, 2022 with the support of 169 lawmakers. As per the Article 76 (4) of the Constitution of Nepal, the PM-elect under the Article 76 (2) needs to take the vote of confidence in the HoR within 30 days of the PM's election.
