Youth in Politics. What for?

Nepal, in the past 15 years has seen political and social changes once people only imagined of. From unitary to federalism, from monarchy to republic, from a Hindu state to secular, from armed conflict to temporary peace, Nepal has progressed at the speed of rocket. Liking the change or not is a subject to one’s perception and can be debated.  But Nepal’s fast paced political progression has included and attracted minorities into politics, including the youth.

All contributors to this volume seem to believe that the framers of our constitution were rather wise to declare Nepal as a secular country, even if they had to go against the popular view.

KATHMANDU, Dec 9: The Christian population has increased rapidly after Nepal was declared secular state in 2007. The National Population and Housing Census conducted by the Central Bureau of Statistics had recorded the Christian population at just 375,699 in 2011.

KATHMANDU, June 26: Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS), an organization involved in promoting Hinduism, has demanded that the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi ‘scrap’ Nepal’s secular constitution and use his clout to declare Nepal a ‘Hindu nation’, Indian media reported.
