DANG, July 14: Charging a group of medical practitioners and officials at Rapti Zonal Hospital with trying to cover-up a rape of a teenager in the district, rights activists in Dang have asked the government to launch a high-level probe into the matter. [break]

The rights activists have been infuriated after a medical team at Rapti Sub-regional Hospital concluded that the teenager was raped, contradicting a report issued by the Regional Hospital that she was not.

The 16-year-old from Golthakuri village, was reportedly gang raped by four people at a room she had rented in Tulsipur, on August 1.

"Conflicting medical reports shows that the Zonal Hospital is trying to cover-up the case," charged Chief of Inter-party Women´s Network, Punam Sherpaili.

The rights activists also informed that they have already submitted a memorandum to the higher government authorities, demanding actions against the alleged doctors and officials.

The reputation of both the hospitals is also at stake following the scandal.

Meanwhile, the police informed that they have nabbed one of the alleged rapists, and the search is on for the others.
