KATHMANDU, Oct 25: At a time when the government is preparing to host a dialogue on climate change named Sagarmatha Sambad in July next year, a group of four youngsters claimed that they staged a four-hour hunger strike at the base camp of Mount Everest on Wednesday to draw the world’s attention on climate change.

Youth activists including Suresh Karki, Birat Gautam, Bhim Prasad Subedi and Santosh Niroula claimed that they staged the ‘hunger strike’ at the base camp (5364 meters) expressing solidarity with climate movements in Nepal and abroad.

“Our hunger strike is aimed at drawing the attention of leaders from Nepal and the world about the accord they signed to fight against climate change,” Birat Gautam told Republica.

Kaji Bista, manager of Pyramid Research Center, broke the hunger strike by offering juice to the youths.
