UDAYAPUR, May 14: A youth was killed in police action on Friday at Kalika Secondary School polling station in Katari Municipality-10, Udayapur. The deceased has been identified as Bir Bahadur Katuwal, 18, according to Ward Committee member of Maoist Center Arjun Magar.
According to Magar, the police opened fire in the air after the dispute between the two candidates escalated in the polling center. While Bir Bahadur was shot dead, Mohan Shrestha, 13, was injured in the incident.

The deceased's uncle Gaurav Katuwal was an independent candidate for the post of ward chairman from the Maoist party led by Netra Bikran Chanda. Bal Bahadur Khatri from the Nepali Congress and Chhetra Khadka from the UML were other candidates for the post. A minor dispute that erupted between these candidates turned into clashes at the polling center.
Laxman Poudel, Udayapur District secretary of the Chanda-led Maoist, confirmed the death of Bir Bahadur Katuwal, nephew of his own party's candidate Gaurav Katuwal.
