The plantation program, which was organized as part of a campaign to raise awareness on climate change and forestry and initiated by local youth groups affiliated to Nepalese Youth for Climate Action (NYCA), was held from 18-31 July.
The program was supported by Clean Energy Nepal (CEN), Livelihoods and Forestry Program (LFP) and District Forest Offices of the three districts. Local organizations such as Green World Youth Club, Nawalparasi Women Group Youth Club and community forest user groups were involved in the drive.
Around 65 youth, hundreds of locals, students and teachers from around 50 local schools participated in the program.
The plantation was carried out in more than 70 hectares of lands, community managed forest areas, riversides and fallow lands in the districts -- 15.2 ha in Kapilvastu, 51.5 ha in Nawaparasi and 3.5 ha in Rupandehi.
Plant species like Sapheda, Arjuna, Sirish, Caseya, Epil-epil, Mashala, Bakeyno, Jammun, Khayar, Tik, Nigalo have been planted.
Local youth groups have also set up a special coordination mechanism for monitoring growth of the plants, NYCA said in a statement on Wednesday.
