The FDF has demanded that the proportion of those elected under the first past the post electoral system and those elected under the PR system be maintained in the same ratios as during the CA election held in April, 2008. [break]
"Of course, we are also not in favor of having 601 members in the new CA. But we want to see the past ratio maintained," said FDF Coordinator Upendra Yadav, who is also the chairman of Madhesi People´s Rights Forum-Nepal.
Yadav maintained that the reduction of the number of those to be elected under proportional representation system will affect the representation of Madhesi, Dalits and other marginalized groups in the CA. He demanded that the decision be revised to ensure their representation.
The four parties have recently decided to bring down the number PR seats to 245 from 335 in the last CA election while keeping intact the 240 members to be elected under direct electoral system.
Yadav also criticized the move of major parties to amend the electoral arrangements without broader political consensus.
While demanding resignation of Chief Justice Khil Raj Regmi in the aftermath of his assuming the post of interim government head, Yadav cast doubt over the neutrality of the election government saying there has been an agreement to guide the government by high level political mechanism comprising the leaders of the four major parties.
Yadav demanded that the issue of citizenship distribution should be settled before the elections and electoral constituencies should be delineated in line with the 2011 national census.
