Yadav began the campaign at 8 a.m. on Thursday when parliamentary party leader Bijaya Kumar Gachchhadar was submitting signatures of 32 among 53 Constituent Assembly members to Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal to claim his position as the MPRF leader when they join the government.
"The chairman has started signature campaign to keep the unity within the party intact," Upendra Jha, Yadav´s close aide, told myrepublica.com, "He has already collected some 20 signatures."
A senior party leader said the campaign is aimed at showing Yadav´s majority and claiming the party´s leadership in government.
Earlier, the four major coalition partners of the new government had agreed to accept Gachchhadar as leader of the MPRF in the government. Gachchhadar has claimed the post of deputy prime minister and home minister.
However, Yadav is against the decision of coalition partners, arguing that the decision made by the central committee should prevail.
