KATHMANDU, Sept 18: The election of Nepal Wushu Association (NWA) slated for Saturday could not take place due to internal disputes. The general assembly turned into meeting following a dispute between "different groups."

However, NWA establishment denied the existence of two or more group in the association and said they were forced to call off the election following directives from National Sports Council (NSC) Member Secretary Yubaraj Lama. [break]

The meeting has also decided to request NSC to fix another date for election.

"The election was not conducted as Member Secretary verbally directed us to do so despite all our preparations ," NWA Secretary Deepak Lama said, adding, "He wants to get his party cadres elected in the association. This is why he issued such a directive." Member-secretary Lama is a UCPN (Maoist) appointee in the NSC.

Member Secretary Lama, however, refuted the allegations. "The existence of two groups in wushu led to the dispute. Today (Saturday) I did my best to resolve the disputes and held dialogues but I failed," Member Secretary Lama said, adding, "How can the election be held under such circumstances."

NSC had ordered the associations to hold NSC election by August 26 and later had extended the date by September 12.

"The association no longer remains a legitimate body as the election date has been deferred twice ," said Member Secretary Lama suggesting both the groups to get united.

However, NWA secretary Lama accused Member Secretary Lama of hatching a plot and creating an artificial dispute to ensure the entry of Workers Martyrs Club members in the committee. "The association cannot run in such a manner. We made preparations for election after getting verbal permission from member secretary."

According to Secretary Lama, the meeting attended by 32 representatives from 16 districts also endorsed the reports of General Secretary Pranil Dhoj Karki and Treasurer Nanibabu Tamang. Lama said the NWA shall make public the views of the association through a press meet on Sunday.
