Writ petition registered at SC against TikTok ban in Nepal

KATHMANDU, Nov 17: A writ petition has been filed at the Supreme Court (SC) demanding the annulment of the decision of the Council of Ministers to ban TikTok in Nepal.


Advocate Dinesh Tripathi reached the SC to file the writ petition on Friday. His writ petition is in the process of being registered.

It has been argued in the writ petition that constitutional democracy, rights and freedoms of citizens should be governed by the rule of law, while the ban on TikTok is against the rule of law. Claiming that the freedom of expression will also be violated, Tripathi has demanded the annulment of the government's decision to ban TikTok.


A Cabinet meeting on November 13 decided to ban the social networking app TikTok in Nepal. The government has decided to ban TikTok citing disruption to family relations and social harmony.
