A rally was organized from southern gate of Dasharath Stadium with the participation of different organizations. A large number of representatives of national and international non-governmental organizations, students, civil society members took part in the rally. [break]
The rally ended assembling in the Khula Munch after encircling the different parts of the city. Participants of the rally had carried placards and banners reading slogans against HIV/AIDS.
At the program, Minister for Health and Population Uma Kant Chaudhary said guarantee of human rights and services to the people living with HIV/AIDS was possible only with the help of all and urged different organizations, communities, people and others to help from their respective sectors.
Similarly, National AIDS and Sexual Disease Control Center established a National AIDS Research Library at its premises in Teku Tuesday. This is the first library related to HIV/AIDS research in the country. In the library, HIV/AIDS related strategies, policies, works and reports of different programmes including others are kept.
Inaugurating the library minister Chaudhary said it was necessary to preserve human rights of the HIV/AIDS infected and urged not to discriminate them.
The World AIDS Day-2009 is being observed today throughtout the country with the slogan of ´Universal Access and Human Rights´.
In Nepal, 14,787 people are infected with HIV/AIDS till mid October as per the report of their blood test.
Similarly, in Birgunj a rally was organized to mark the World AIDS Day this morning. At the programme, it is informed that number of people living with HIV/AIDS has reached nearly 300 in Birgunj.
On the occasion, Kumar Timilsina of Blu Diamond Society, an organization working for sexual minorities and people living with HIV/AIDS, blamed the government for not working in favor of HIV/AIDS infected people. Timilsina asked the government to incorporte the rights of HIV/AIDS infected in the new constitution. The programme was organized with initiative of District AIDS Coordinating Committee, Parsa.
