KATHMANDU, May 17: A worker was killed by electrocution while working on an electric pole in Dhulikhel on Saturday, after a power line was reportedly re-energized without prior notice.
The incident took place in front of the District Administration Office in Dhulikhel Municipality-7, where maintenance work was being carried out by the Kavre Distribution Center of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA). The victim has been identified as 28-year-old Upesh Pariyar from Ishworpur Municipality-12 in Sarlahi.
According to the District Police Office, Pariyar was working on an 11,000-volt high-tension line when he was electrocuted at around 11:30 am. He died on the spot.

Police Spokesperson and Deputy Superintendent of Police Min Bahadur Ghale said that Inspector Dinesh Bahadur Kunwar has been assigned to lead the investigation into the incident.
Preliminary reports suggest that the fatal accident occurred because the NEA switched on the power line while Pariyar was still working on it, without notifying him in advance.
Although the Kavre Distribution Center had issued a public notice on Friday stating that the 11 kV line would be energized from Saturday, the message primarily targeted the general public—urging people to keep livestock away and avoid contact with electrical infrastructure. It appears that proper internal communication regarding the activation of the power line was not relayed to Pariyar.
Pariyar’s body has been retrieved from the pole and sent to Dhulikhel Hospital for post-mortem examination, according to police.
