Work underway to take Melamchi and Indrawati rivers back to their original courses

Sindhupalchowk, August 11: Melamchi Municipality has brought in five machines to take the Melamchi and Indrawati rivers back to their original courses. According to Mayor Dambar Aryal, the work to change the rivers’ courses will be completed in 10 days if everything goes as planned.

Continuous floods in the region since mid-June have destroyed 197 houses in Melamchi and 282 ropanies of farmland. The displaced families are currently living in tents and have rented rooms to stay in. 

So far, 20 people are missing in Melamchi and Helambu floods, six were injured and five have died from floods and landslides. The disasters in Melamchi, Helambu Rural Municipality, Panchpokhari Thangpal Rural Municipality have destroyed physical infrastructures like houses, roads, bridges, farms, and businesses worth millions of rupees.
