More than 2,000 women in rural areas and around 1,000 in the urban had passed lands in their names last year, informed the Land Revenue Office, Surkhet.

Total revenue collected from the land registration in the district was Rs. 25 million, the office further informed.

It is very complicated to collect necessary documents showing evidence to get exemption and that most of the Dalit people are unaware about the provision, the office said.

‘Rise in the number of land registration in the name of women does not necessarily mean that women were provided their rights but the tendency to register land in woman’s name is because of tax exemption,’ said Tirtha Subedi, a clerk of land revenue office.
