DAILEKH, Aug 22: Women of Bhairabi Rural Municipality in Dailekh rescued a pregnant woman who was suffering from labor in the street. The women were able to take her to a maternity ward of a nearby health post just in time for delivery.
The woman from Siraul in Chamunda Bindrasaini Municipality suffered from labor pain while she was on her way to Bhairabi Municipality.
Woman rescued from India on Minister Shrestha’s initiative
Upon seeing her suffer, the local women fetched a stretcher and carried her to the maternity ward.
Suna BK, one of the locals who helped the pregnant woman, said it was convenient for them to find the stretcher since the municipality had distributed stretchers free of cost only about a month ago.
The local unit has made stretchers are easily accessible because people in the area face difficulties in transportation of sick people.
“Since it was important for pregnant woman to reach health post in time, we immediately arranged a stretcher and rushed her to a nearby health post for delivery,” said BK.
“The timely rescue saved both the lives of the mother and the child. We are glad to know that the child has been safely delivered and the mother is also in good health,” added BK.
The locals in the district face huge problems due to lack of transportation services. Although the vehicles run through some of the areas, the roads unfit for travelling during the monsoon.
