Woman dies of snake bite

RAJBIRAJ, June 17: A woman who was bitten by poisonous snake on Saturday night died untimely death as she was taken to a witch doctor for treatment instead of taking her to a health post.



She is 58-year-old Urmila Goit Yadav of Prasawani VDC-4. She died at 11 p.m. on Saturday after she was bitten by a snake near her house. [break]



Yadav was first taken to a witch doctor for treatment after she was bitten by snake. She was taken to the Sagarmatha Zonal Hospital at Rajbiraj after showing her to the witch doctor but it was already late and she died on the way to hospital.



Snake bite cases are becoming frequent in Saptari district these days with increasing heat. Daily three snake bite cases have been coming to the Zonal Hospital for treatment.



Meanwhile, one person died after a truck knocked down the motorcycle he was riding in Pipara Simara-9 in Bara district last night.



The accident took place at Aadhabhar forest on the Birgunj Pathalaiya road section. The motorcycle was heading towards Hetaunda from Pathalaiya when it was hit by the truck coming from the opposite direction.



The deceased has been identified as 40-year-old Ram Prasad Chaulagain of Hetaunda-7. He died while undergoing treatment at the Narayani Sub-regional Hospital in Birgunj. His wife Kamala has sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment at the National Medical College, Birgunj, police said.
