According to police, Jhuma Chapagain, 35, of Kurulenetupa jumped in the river with the toddler at around 7:30 am.
Local retrieved the dead body of the woman some one kilometer downstream. The kid is still missing.
Family members said that Chapagain, a teacher at local Buddha Primary School, was suffering from mental illness.
SP Bibhutiraj Pandey said that police are investigating the case.
