Lemi Sherpa, 57, a resident of Dasti Gangaura, Chakhu VDC 3, was beaten by her neighbors on August 20 on the charge. The victim reached the district headquarters Charikot in search of justice and treatment.[break]
She is currently undergoing treatment at Chhorolpa Hospital. Sherpa said that her neighbor, Dadoma Sherpa kicked her on her chest and then attacked brutally calling her a witch. Sherpa said that she has been beaten up time and again on the charge of practicing witchcraft.
Seven years ago, Sherpa was accused of being a witch by her neighbors after her brother and sister, Nim Gailbu and Dadolma Sherpa´s grandmother, Lakdoma Sherpa suffered from eye disease. Sherpa said her neighbors have been meting out mental and physical torture to her after the incident.
Sherpa has sustained muscle injury but there is no injury to the bones, Dr Paraman Chandra Sen of the hospital said.
Sherpa´s husband, Dhane Furba Sherpa, lives in shed away from home looking after his flock. Of her four children, the eldest son and daughter live abroad and in Charikot. And since her younger son lives in Kathmandu, she had been staying with her youngest daughter, Sushma Sherpa.
Police have dispatched a team from Singti to nab the guilty and further investigation has been started, Dhiraj Pratap Singh, Deputy Superintendent of Police of District Police Office Dolakha said.
