Windstorm kills eight in Tarai

BIRGUNJ, May 3: A windstorm that hit several Tarai districts on Sunday morning killed at least eight persons in Rautahat, Bara and Parsa districts.



They were killed as the strong gale coupled with rainfall that occurred at around 6 am demolished thatched houses, leaving them trapped in the debris.



The deceased have been identified as Bal Keshari Hajarin, 60, of Pipra, Amrita Kumari, 12, of Sangrampur and Shova Kumari, 3, of Mudalwa in Rautahat district. Likewise, Chandra Das, 3, and Ram Pritiya Kumari,10, of Pipra VDC and Subba Raut Kurmi,50, of Paroniya VDC in the district are also among the killed, according to the police.



Likewise, Amala Devi Ram,40, of Hariharpur VDC-3 in Bara and five-year old daughter of Ram Balak Ram of Sukhchaina VDC-8 in Parsa districts were also killed in course of the violent hailstorm on Sunday morning.



The windstorm has caused extensive damages to dozens of houses in the districts. The wind has swept away roof of many of the schools and collapsed dozens of electricity poles including 66 KV transmission line in Parawanipur, Bara.
