Widow 'gangraped' in Balaju

KATHMANDU, Nov 15: Nepal Police has intensified search for four men allegedly involved in raping a woman in Balaju. The four had alleged kidnapped the woman, who is 29 and a widow, from her house in Manamaiju early in the morning on Tuesday and committed the crime.

The woman hails from Solukhumbu district. She came to Kathmandu about seven years ago after the death of her husband and had been taking care of her two daughters and a son by working at a Balaju area restaurant. According to the victim, a group of people knocked at her door early in the morning on Tuesday, forced her into a taxi cab, took her to a Balaju guesthouse and raped her.
  
"We have sent the victim for examination at the TU Teaching Hospital and have intensified the search for the four suspects," DSP Govinda Puri, the chief of the Metropolitan Police Circle Office, Maharajgunj, said. The victim and her associates have accused the Balaju police station of refusing to register her complaint by saying that the area does not fall under its jurisdiction.

DSP Puri said they will start legal proceedings once the medical examination report is received and the suspects are arrested.

The victim has complained that she knew one of the four men as she had worked in his restaurant in the past. However, the victim couldn't reveal the identity of the man in detail, according to Menuka Thapa, an activist assisting her for justice. Thapa said, the victim woman was found with multiple injuries to the body. She has injury in the right eye and walks with difficulty due to bleeding, Thapa, who heads Raksha Nepal, said adding that they have taken custody of all three children of the victim.
