KATHMANDU, May 18: An assistant professor at Pokhara University (PU), Dr. Rabindra Ghimire has asked Prime Minister KP Oli (the Chancellor of the university) about the post of vice-chancellor at Pokhara University that remains vacant for the last nine months.

Taking the matter to Facebook on Monday, Dr. Ghimire appealed to PM Oli and the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology to appoint a vice-chancellor at PU as soon as possible.

Earlier, the Government of Nepal appointed vice-chancellor at all other universities across the country except Pokhara University.

Ghimire therefore writes, “Why does the Government of Nepal not find it necessary to appoint a Vice-Chancellor at PU? Is PU not under the Ministry? Aren’t the problems of PU those of the Nepal government?”

According to Dr. Ghimire, the tenures of the dean, controller of the examination board, and head register matured during these nine months. These posts, therefore, are also vacant now. The university has already appointed a temporary head twice.

Some 63 colleges with more than 40,000 students are affiliated to Pokhara University.

He has also accused the Government of Nepal of not being willing to appoint a vice-chancellor at PU.
