CHITWAN, Oct 30: The wholesale support price of eggs has increased following a surge in demand during the festive and winter seasons.
The Nepal Layers Poultry Farmers Association raised the support price after demand increased in the market. Association Chairperson Binod Pokharel said a meeting held in Pokhara on Thursday revised the prices set at the association's previous meeting in Kathmandu on October 23.
Egg price increased, still short of production cost
Under the revised rates, the support price of XL, large and medium eggs has increased by Rs 200 per carton, while the price of small eggs has risen by Rs 100 per carton.
The support price of XL eggs weighing 14.5–14.8 kg per carton has increased to Rs 3,900 from Rs 3,700. The price of large eggs weighing 13.5–13.8 kg has been raised to Rs 3,800 from Rs 3,600.
Similarly, the support price of medium eggs weighing 12.5–12.8 kg has increased to Rs 3,700 from Rs 3,500, while eggs weighing more than 11 kg now carry a support price of Rs 3,200, up from Rs 3,100.
Pokharel said the consumer price of large eggs has been fixed at Rs 25 per piece and Rs 45 for two medium eggs. However, retail prices have not been increased.
