Jhapa, August 24: The family of Gopal Ghimire from Mechinagar Municipality has issued a plea for assistance in locating him, as his whereabouts remain unknown even after 18 years.

On March 21, 2005, Gopal had departed for Malaysia after securing a work permit for the position of 'Production Operator' through Raj Overseas Manpower Company. However, only a week after arriving in Malaysia, Gopal informed his family that he was labeled an 'illegal worker'.

Despite Gopal maintaining frequent contact with his family in Nepal and conveying his struggles, the Ghimire family has remained completely uninformed about his exact situation for the past six years, according to Gopal's mother, Sani Dhakal Ghimire.

Gopal had embarked on overseas employment at a tender age of 19, and he is now 37 years old. His mother, Sani, expressed, "My son has been out of contact for the past six years. He called me within a week of reaching Malaysia, stating he was accused of being an illegal worker. I urge all relevant government bodies to locate my son, regardless of his current circumstances."

The Ghimire family suspects that Gopal might be incarcerated in a Malaysian jail on charges of being an 'illegal worker', possibly due to errors committed by the manpower company.

Sani, the mother, complained that, despite submitting various signed agreement papers with the job-placement company and providing Gopal's image, they have not received any proactive steps from government entities to search for Gopal and ensure his safe return.

She implored the government to initiate efforts to locate and rescue her son. Gopal's passport number is 2401347, and he was one among 29 Nepali youths who had ventured to Malaysia from Raj Overseas during the same period.
