POKHARA, Oct 7: The District Administration Office (DAO), Kaski has urged the government to deploy the Armed Police Force (APF) to ensure security in the election constituencies of the district.

A few days ago, the government had claimed Kaski to be a relatively safe district in terms of security.  Similarly, district administration offices of Palpa and Baglung have urged the government in writing to deploy APF personnel for security during the upcoming Constituent Assembly (CA) election. The government has listed 39 districts as “normal” districts and the rest of the 36 districts as high risk districts. [break]

The government had decided to deploy Nepali Army (NA) and Nepal Police (NP) personnel in relatively safe districts and APF and NP personnel in sensitive and highly sensitive districts. The government has districts in the western region, namely Rupandehi, Kapilvastu and Nawalparasi as highly sensitive areas.

An APF official, who did not want to be named, said they have mobilized a 70-member security team in Myagdi.

Earlier, the government had not deployed APF teams in western districts of Arghakhanchi, Manang, Baglung, and Myagdi. APF officials have clarified that they would deploy teams as per the request from district administration offices. The poll-opposing parties had staged a protest in Myagdi district a few days ago.
