NWA Secretary and the Chief Coach Tilak Raut said male weightlifters would vie for eight different weight categories while female would compete for seven weight categories. NWA expects participation of 40 weightlifters in the grand prix.
"In every weight category, NWA has set a ´qualifying record´ and every weightlifter should lift at least the set weight to win medals," said NWA General Secretary Partha Sarathi Sen Gupta.
NWA will pick the best eight male and four female weightlifters from the tournament for a special training program conducted by National Sports Council targeting medals in the upcoming 12th South Asian Games.
"There are already some weightlifters training under the program and the rest can challenge them in the grand prix to replace the former in the special training program," said Sen Gupta.
As Nepal Army´s weightlifters are not in the special training program because of their absence in the Sixth National Games, they could get chance to enter the training program from the grand prix.
