KATHMANDU, Dec 12: Ministry of Youth and Sports on Monday felicitated two junior weightlifters who recently set new national records during the Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Tournament in Tokyo, Japan.
Male player Prakash KC and female player Kamala Shrestha had set new national records in their respective weight categories held from November 8 to 16.
They were rewarded with Rs 25,000 each by Mahesh Kumar Dahal, the secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
Prakash, who competed in men's 62 kg junior section, had lifted 100 kg in snatch and 124 kg in clean and jerk to better his own record of 93 kg of snatch and 120 kg in clean and jerk.
Similalry, Kamala who competed in women's 58 kg category, had lifted 61 kg in snatch and 78 kg in clean and jerk.
In doing so, she eclipsed Laxmi Chaudhary's record set three years ago in the First Lumbini Championship.
