WCL winner to receive Rs 700,000

KATHMANDU, Oct 15: The winner of the Women’s Champions League (WCL) is set to receive Rs 700,000 as announced by the Queens Event management on Monday. The runner-up will bag a cash prize of Rs 300,000 in the five-team T20 franchise event.

KATHMANDU, Oct 15: The winner of the Women’s Champions League (WCL) is set to receive Rs 700,000 as announced by the Queens Event management on Monday. The runner-up will bag a cash prize of Rs 300,000 in the five-team T20 franchise event.


Similarly, the player of the series will receive a scooter and cash prize of Rs 50,000. The best batter and bowler will bag Rs 25,000 each whereas the player of the match will be awarded with Rs 5000.


National women cricket team captain Rubina Chhetri-led Kat Queens Kathmandu is set to face Chitwan Rhinos, led by marquee player Indu Verma, in the first match of the first ever WCL on October 16. The fixtures were announced earlier this month.

The franchise league for women cricketers, set to start on October 16, also includes Biratnagar Titans led by marquee player Sarita Magar, Lalitpur Falcons led by marquee player Nery Thapa, and Pokhara Paltan led by marquee player Sita Rana Magar.


The match between Falcons and Paltan on October 21 will be the final group match. The winner of the group stage will directly qualify for the final match whereas the first and second runners-up will face each other in an eliminator scheduled for October 22 to finalize the second finalist. The final of the league will be played on October 24.


Pokhara Premier League (PPL) organizers Queen's Event Management Pvt Ltd is organizing the event at Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground in Kirtipur.


Titans had spent the most in the first-ever women players' draft ceremony held for the upcoming first season of WCL in Kathmandu. Fifty-five players were drafted.


A total of 109 players had registered for the draft. Ten of them were categorized in Diamond whereas, 18 were listed in Rubies. Similarly, 51 players registered for the Sapphires from which only 27 players were drafted. Thirty players are set to undergo talent hunt to be included in franchise teams.
