KATHMANDU, June 28: The collection of waste management of Kathmandu Valley will be affected today and tomorrow as the road connecting Sisdol and Banchare Danda — which has been filled with garbage — has to be cleaned.

The work of bringing the waste to Banchare Danda will be at a halt today and tomorrow as a significant amount of garbage has accumulated in the Sisdole of Nuwakot. One has to cross the pile of garbage collected at Sisdole to reach Banchare Danda which is two kilometers from the place.

Similarly, with the arrival of the monsoon season, the garbage has begun to rot. As there is an increased risk of an accident while traveling above the rotten garbage, the Department of Environment of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has stated that to clean the area it will first stop the work of bringing garbage from the valley to the place.

According to Sarita Rai, head of KMC’s environment department, the problem has arisen due to frequent rainfalls in the past few days. Due to the rainfalls, the rotten garbage has made it difficult to travel roads from Kathmandu to Banchare Danda.

Earlier, an 18-point agreement was reached between the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) and the locals of Banchare Danda to deposit the wastes of the Kathmandu Valley at Banchare Danda and Sisdole landfill site.

Meanwhile, KMC has issued a notice stating that it will impose a fine of Rs 500 if the people fail to separate decomposable and non-decomposable waste starting from July 17.
