KATHMANDU, March 20: CPN (Maoist Center) leader Devendra Paudel has pointed out the need for national consensus for political stability, development and prosperity.

During the discussion on the motion of confidence put forward by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal in today's meeting of the House of Representatives, Paudel said that the public opinion obtained from the election showed that the parties should be united.

"There is a current public opinion that all political parties should be united, the current public opinion is to go together. Why did the leaders of UML run away instead of forging consensus on the country’s top post? Couldn't we go together in the election to the President and Vice President with consensus?" he asked.

Stating that there is a need for national consensus to complete transitional justice and solve the country's problems, he clarified that the Prime Minister has been raising the issue of national consensus from the beginning to achieve the same goal.

"Again, there is a need for consensus in this country. It is necessary for the parties to be united in order to maintain the public opinion of the people for five years. The prime minister is looking for a national consensus to solve the country's problems by keeping the MPs safe for five years," he said.

Calling upon the CPN-UML and the Rastriya Prajatantra Party to solve the country's problems together and not run away from the national consensus, he urged all political parties to give a vote of confidence to the current government.
