War against dengue on

CHITWAN, Oct 11: In a bid to raise awareness about the spread of the dengue epidemic and to contain it from spreading further, the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division (EDCD), Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP), Monday began a door-to-door campaign in Chitwan -- the epicenter of the epidemic.



In Bharatpur municipality, where the number of dengue patients is high, 64 female health volunteers -- divided into several groups -- visited each household raising awareness and providing precautionary measures about the virus. [break]



The campaign will kick off in Ratnanagar municipality from Tuesday.



The latest move came as MoHPs´ spray drive against Aedes Agypte mosquitoes, that transmit the virus to human, didn´t stop the virus from spreading further. In Chitwan alone, the number of dengue patients has climbed to 252 as of Monday, according to District Public Health Office (DPHO), Chitwan.



"We are worried that the number of dengue patients is increasing by the day," Mahendra Prasad Shrestha, DPHO chief of Chitwan, told Republica.



Meanwhile, a three-member parliamentary team headed by lawmaker Chitra Bahadur Shrestha arrived here for a field observation. The team members, who arrived in Chitwan to take stock of the latest situation, met Chief District Officer Basanta Raj Gautam. The team will make public its report on October 13.
