KATHMANDU, Feb 4: On February 3, in a small section of the Image Ark gallery in Kulimha Tole, Patan, 17 black and white photographs printed on canvas, were waiting for the audience to read the story off the walls.

Photographer Phurpu Tsering Gurung’s ‘Waiting’ tells the story of a mother and a son. As he puts it, the photographing process for him was a way to understand this relationship. In the backdrop of the sounds coming from the Tibetan instrument, Danyen, Gurung talked about his series. “These photographs talk about a mother who’s in exile and her dreams and hopes for her children,” he said.[break]

Gurung is a freelance photographer based in Kathmandu who has been involved in photography for the last three years.

“These photographs are touching emotionally and artistically. It demonstrates the photographer’s courage as well as generosity,” remarked Valdemar Holmgren on behalf of Marie Ange Sylvain Holmgren, Managing Director at the Image Ark.

The exhibition will continue until February 26.
