KATHMANDU, Sept 4: Coinciding with the International Vulture Conservation Awareness Day (September 4), conservationists have decided to hold Vulture Conservation Festival 2010 from September 24-26 in Nawalparasi.

Roots & Shoots Nepal has prepared an action plan for the festival aimed at promoting Basabasahi in Nawalparasi district as the conservation focused alternative eco-tourism destination. The festival will be supported by Nepal Tourism Board.

“The festival will be coordinated by Happy Flight Group which is engaged in vulture conservation in Nepal,” Manoj Gautam of R&S said.

At a function in the capital on Saturday, the coordinator of Happy Flight Group, Dilli Ram Chaudhary, informed that the number of vulture nests has grown from three in 2006 to 17 at present. He said that the success of vulture conservation lies in encouraging local participation and making the project self-sustainable.
