The winner of the award will be selected on the basis of SMS votes they receive from the public.[break] Voting has been opened from Monday (Aug 23) to September 13 midnight and the winner will be announced on September 14.
The players nominated for the award are Ayasha Shakya (taekwondo), Angbabu Lama (wushu), Jamuna Gurung (football), Rajendra Bhandari (athletics), Rupak Acharya (golf), Santosh Sahukhala (football) and Sharad Vesawakar (cricket).
The players were shortlisted by the central working committee of the NSJF. “It is for the public to decide the popularity of the players,” said Niranjan Rajbanshi, president of the forum.
“It is possible that the names of some deserving players might be missing from the list but the ones selected are among the best players who have contributed for the country,” added Rajbanshi. He also said that more categories should be added in the coming editions of the award. This is the seventh edition and is aimed at highlighting the players who are forgotten soon after some major tournaments.
Volleyball player Manju Gurung and footballer Jumanu Rai were the winners of the last two editions of the NSJF Pulsar Popular Player of the Year award.
The cash prize for the most popular player has not been declared yet but is expected to be more than last year´s prize of Rs 25,000.
The award is being organized by NSJF in collaboration with THT Live 3131. Users of NTC, NCELL and UTL can type: pulsar<space>Code and send it to 3131 to register their votes.
The cost of each vote is Rs 3 exclusive of government taxes. The initials of the first and last names of the players are voting codes of the nominees.
