The deadline served by the Election Commission (EC) to complete the registration process in the district´s three municipalities --Itahari, Dharan and Inaruwa - expires on November 16. But with the protest against the new voter registration system, EC is unlikely to accomplish the goal in the given time. [break]
Although the registration is going on smoothly in Itahari, it has been obstructed by Madhes-based parties in Inaruwa and the Council in Dharan.
“We had made action plans to complete the first-phase of the process within November 16. But, EC will not be able to complete the task within that period in Dharan and Inaruwa,” said Aswin Pokharel, chief of Sunsari district EC.
Meanwhile, three cadres affiliated to the council, who were held on charges of seizing EC´s documents, were released after being detained for four hours.
The police had arrested the Council´s district chairman Dambar Khajum and secretary duos Bhim Idhingho and Amit Thebe from Dharan-9. However, they were released soon after the council threatened to launch indefinite strike protesting the arrest.
